Michigan has four nicknames (like Pennsylvania): The Wolverine State, The Great Lakes State, The Automotive State, and the Winter Water Wonderland. Bordered by five lakes, this Midwestern state is the center of the American automotive industry, with giants like General Motors, Ford and Chrysler residing in Detroit. Michigan also has leading hands in information technology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing. Other large companies include cereal makers Kellogg’s and pharmaceutical colossus Pfizer.
