The Sunflower State was once home to nomadic Native Americans who hunted bison. Now, its home to three employers with over 10,000 employees each: Spirit AeroSystems with 21,000 (in Wichita), Cessna with 13,000 (in Wichita) and Fort Riley with 12,500 (in Riley County). Although Topeka is the capital, Wichita is certainly the largest city here. Industries include aero-parts and aviation manufacturing, defense contracting, and large medical centers.
