A few things to remember about being an intern: paid internships are few and far between, so if you need to make some cash, you'll need to find a second job to tide you over; many internships offer college credit in lieu of a salary.
85% of internships are on the east coast or the west coast, New York or LA; if you don't already live in one of these cities, or within commuting distance, you should relocate - many companies will not even consider your application if you are not local.
You will be expected to work at a minimum 2 days per week and treat your internship as though you are getting paid for the work you are doing; professionalism is not optional!!
Remember, for all your hard work, you will gain invaluable knowledge about the industry, forge relationships with people within the industry and your resume will be far ahead of those that choose to forgo an internship. Fashion is about working hard and networking – an internship is a great place to start, and InternZoo offers fashion internship opportunities in great number.
